The Nordic Conference on Castles and Manors 2016
New times in old manors – innovations, urbanization and societal change August 15-17, 2016
The traditional Nordic Conference on Castles and Manors is organized in Finland in August 2016. The conference starts in Helsinki the 15 of August and continues with excursions to Finnish manors during the following two days. The first excursion goes to manors in Häme/Tavastland and the second excursion takes us to what is left of the manors in Helsinki and the urbanized areas around the capital.
The focus of the conference is on how changes in society, politics, and economy have influenced the manors, especially in the 19th and 20th century. We invite scholars and others with a professional interest in the subject to propose papers for the conference workshops. The paper presentations will be 15 minutes + 10 minutes discussion. The papers do not necessarily have to deal with 19th and 20th century changes or innovations.
Conference papers can be given in English but you should note that both Scandinavian languages and English will be spoken.
Send an abstract (not more than one page) to Nina Edgren-Henrichson at the latest March 31, 2016: nina.edgren-henrichson@sls.fi
The conference fee is 100 euros. It includes the conference day and two excursions with transport and meals.
