ENCOUNTER Workshop in York in September 2016
The next meeting of the ENCOUNTER Group will be a workshop in York 20th-21th september 2016.
The workshop will bring together academics and curators from across Nothern Europe to discuss the changing role of the country house in the cultural and economic networks in Northern Europe from the eigtheenth to the twentieth century. The workshop willl adress definitions of the manorial and country house, its role in the transformation of the landscape and society, and the challenges of public understanding faced by curators and owners.
The workshop location is The King’s Manor, one of York most attrative historic sites. The site now houses the staff of Archaeology, Medieval Studies and Eighteenth Century Studies at University of York.
