Traveller’s campaign. Visit baltic manors
Dedicated to the Centenaries of Lithuania Independence restoration and Latvia and Estonia Independence declaration and European Year of Cultural Heritage
Summer 2018
131 historic manor houses and castles in three Baltic countries open their doors to the visitors from May 24th till September 16th 2018. The manor associations of three countries have joined their forces to organize a cross-border event to visualize the density of manor network and the range of it’s services in these countries; to highlight the significance of the manors as drivers of cultural, economic and regional development in the past as well as today.
The campaign is organized by Estonian Manor Association, Estonian Manor School Association, Latvian Association of Castles, Palaces and Manors and Lithuanian Association of Castles and Manors.
There are thousands of manor houses all around Europe, what makes our campaign special? First of all the fact that this campaign is the joint initiative of three countries and it is a campaign led by associations of the owners. The story of the manors reflects the development of culture, economy, politics, etc. through nearly 1000 years and most of all the last hundred years when the ownership and role of manors has changed dramatically several times. Opportunity to visit more than just one or even some manors in different state of conservation and function gives a possibility to understand the processes as well the responsibilities in preserving our common heritage. It gives the chance to explore, compare and share.
