New yearbook from Gammel Estrup – The Danish Manor & Estate Museum

Herregårdshistorie No. 16 is now available. “Herregårdshistorie” – Journal of Manor & Estate History – is a publication dealing with all aspects regarding the cultural history of Danish manors and estates. This years’ theme is consumption.

Manorial lifestyle often entailed comprehensive and highly varied patterns of consumption as witnessed by preserved private archives containing receipts and account books – and by the many household goods still to be found in the historic houses.

Charity, buildingprojects, artcollecting, household expenditure and what is sometimes referred to as conspicuous consumption are among the topics treated this year, while next years’ issue will address the related theme of manor households.
